How to bill additional pandemic-related office supplies?

Answered by Arslan Suleymanov, medical reimbursement specialist, editor-in-chief of WCH Insights:

During the Public Health Emergency, private practices can report and get paid for additional supplies and staff time dedicated to preventing the spread of COVID-19. These may include face masks and cleaning supplies, as well as clinical staff time spent on pre-visit instructions and office arrival symptom checks. The CPT code 99072 must be used for this purpose. When reporting 99072, report only once per in-person patient encounter per day regardless of the number of procedures furnished during the encounter.
