Medicare: Open Payments has expanded to include five new provider types

Did you know that in 2021 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Open Payments Program expanded the definition of a covered recipient to include five additional provider types?

Open Payments is a national disclosure program that promotes a more transparent and accountable health care system. Open Payments houses a publicly accessible database of payments that reporting entities, including drug and medical device companies, make to covered recipients like physicians.

The five additional provider types added to the program are:

  • Physician assistants
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Clinical nurse specialists
  • Certified registered nurse anesthetists & Anesthesiologist assistants
  • Certified nurse-midwives
