Provider enrollment application fee for Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP in 2022

Planning to enroll in Medicare in 2022? Read along to discover the new 2022 CMS application fees for Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP enrollment.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services continues its tradition of updating Medicare enrollment application fees annually. First introduced in 2010, this dollar amount is constantly adjusted in accordance with the percentage change in the consumer price index (CPI-U) for all urban consumers in the United States for all products within the 12-month period ending on June 30 of the previous calendar year. Since 2010, this application fee is published in the Federal Register every fall. In 2021, providers had to pay $599 to initiate an enrollment process with Medicare.
In 2021, the Bureau of Labor Statistics determined that the CPU-U increase for the period of July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021, was 5.4 percent. Consequently, by October 25, 2021, the CMS had calculated and revealed the new application fee for the calendar year 2022. This year, institutional healthcare providers would need to pay $631 to submit an enrollment application to Medicare. You are subject to this fee if you are:
• An institutional provider• Enrolling with Medicare, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for the first time• Revalidating your Medicare, Medicaid, or CHIP enrollment• Adding a new Medicare practice location
