UHC to stop mailing authorization and clinical decision letters

Effective May 6, 2022, UnitedHealthcare will no longer mail any letters related to authorizations and clinical decisions. Instead, healthcare providers are encouraged to use

Optum provider portal or an

Application Programming Interface (API). The hard copies of the below-mentioned documentation will no longer be provided:
• Prior authorization decision letters• Inpatient review letters• Extension for lack of clinical information letters• Complex care management and OrthoNet letters
The easiest way to retrieve these documents is through Optum provider portal. Here is how you can do it:
1) Create OneHealthcare ID and link your practice tax ID and other practice credentials to your account using the instructions on the website. Once this step is completed, UnitedHealthcare will mail a registration code to your practice address.2) Activate your account by following the instructions from the letter.3) Sign in to your account and click on “Documents & Reporting”.4) Click Document Library and select the Prior Auth Letters folder.5) Locate & download the desired documentation.
Please be advised that this new rule will not apply to UnitedHealthcare Community Plans and UnitedHealthcare Student Resources.
