HIPAA-compliant telemedicine: a summary of the 2022 HHS guide.

In March 2020, Health and Human Services (HHS) declared that it would exercise enforcement discretion for noncompliance with HIPAA regarding the use of remote technologies for audio/video telehealth services. 

In its latest guidelines, HHS stated that due to financial, language, or physical impairment barriers many patients can’t access audio-video telehealth technologies. Therefore, audio-only telehealth is a great medium to address the issue.
