Amazon Clinic, the telehealth platform introduced by Amazon in late 2022, is considering collaborations with physical healthcare providers to offer comprehensive care solutions. This was revealed by Nworah Ayogu, General Manager and Chief Medical Officer of Amazon Clinic, during a panel discussion at the HLTH conference in Las Vegas. Ayogu emphasized the importance of ensuring a seamless transition to in-person care for patients whose needs can’t be entirely met through telehealth services at Amazon Clinic.
Launched a little under two months after Amazon closed its employer-focused hybrid care business, Amazon Care, Amazon Clinic initially served as a healthcare marketplace where customers could select from a network of telehealth providers and consult with licensed physicians through message-based communication. Over the past year, it has expanded its services, including the introduction of video calls and the treatment of a wider range of medical conditions.
Ayogu expressed Amazon’s commitment to enhancing its offerings based on customer feedback, citing the advantages of the marketplace model. However, he also acknowledged the limitations of virtual care, stating that certain areas, such as cancer care and hospice, would remain outside the scope of Amazon Clinic’s services.
While Amazon Clinic is looking to establish partnerships with physical healthcare providers, the company has not disclosed the timeline for such collaborations or the specific types of providers involved. According to Ayogu, Amazon Clinic already informs customers when virtual care may not be suitable for their clinical needs.
