The Transformative Role of Technology to Prevent Loneliness

The world of technology is trying to combat loneliness. Scientists are still debating whether technologies help us escape the clutches of loneliness or, on the contrary, only increase the distance between people. While skeptics complain that modern technologies alienate people from each other, inventors and techno-optimists propose using robots and other technological innovations to solve the problem of loneliness. Let’s take a closer look!

Social Companion Buddy https://www.bluefrogrobotics.com/robot

Buddy is a popular robot designed in France to help with housework, play with children, and act as a personal assistant. Buddy is a robot that can express emotions. He can joyfully greet his owner returning from work or scold him for forgetting about him.

Buddy is also an open and scalable platform with development tools (Android-based SDK) for developers to give life to a companion with incredible potential.

Somnox Sleep Robot https://somnox.com/

The robot is designed to be hugged, with a human-like body shape, although it looks more like a small soft toy. The device has a built-in module that allows the robot to synchronize with your breathing and set a more measured and calm rhythm, making you adjust to it. Hugging such a device, you calm down and fall asleep. It can play music at your request. Usually, the package includes a recording with white and pink noise, nature sounds, and relaxation music. Audiobooks can also be downloaded.

Video Calling in Virtual Reality

One of the features of Apple VR glasses is the ability to make video calls in virtual reality using FaceTime. You can chat with other users with any of the available immersive backgrounds available in Apple Vision Pro or just in the background of your apartment.

And even if it cannot replace live communication, sometimes, if you are separated by kilometers, it can help you see those who are especially dear to your heart.

QR Memories https://qr-memories.com/

These guys install QR codes on tombstones so that relatives or just passers-by can scan them and see videos or photos of warm moments from the life of the deceased.

QR codes can be placed into stone memorials on graves, next to a tree or shrub, on a bench, or even on a metal plaque. In every case, the code is linked directly to the relevant page on the website.
