The CMS no longer requires authorization for one optometry service

Effective January 7, 2022, vision providers no longer have to obtain prior approval for a correction of lid retraction, referenced under the CPT code 67911.

This procedure is supplemental in most cases, and it is rarely performed & reported as a single service. In addition, starting from the dates of service on or after January 1, 2022, only two units of 67911 are payable per date of service. Commercial payers and Medicare advantage plans are likely to follow the lead and implement this CMS policy too.
