Results of Trigger Point Injections Service-Specific Reviews by National Government Services 

Medical review activity resumed on 8/17/2020 as directed by CMS, with the implementation of post-payment service-specific medical record review to prevent inappropriate Medicare payments. This process ensures that Medicare pays for services that are covered, correctly coded, medically reasonable, and necessary. 

National Government Services conducted a medical review of claims, and the results and reasons for denial or partial denial of Trigger Point Injections (CPT 20552, 20553) services from January 2021 to July 2021 and July 2021 to December 2021 are presented below.
