In recent years, the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) has experienced a remarkable expansion, extending its reach to 43 countries and solidifying its position as the largest healthcare trade association on the business side of medicine worldwide. With a current membership exceeding 220,000 and offering over 30 credentials, AAPC has become a global force, shaping the landscape of medical coding and healthcare practices. 

Global Expansion and Membership Growth 

Dan Schwebach, Senior Vice President of AAPC International, shed light on this expansion during HEALTHCON 2022. While the United States boasts a mature medical coding market with over 40 years of experience, many parts of the world are still navigating the nuances of medical coding for reimbursement. The global distribution of spending on coding-related services highlights North America’s dominant position (64%), followed by the EMEA region (26%), signifying a growing adoption of medical coding practices globally.
