The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has stated the recent cybersecurity incident involving Change Healthcare, a unit of UnitedHealth Group (UHG), which occurred in late February. The impact of this attack on healthcare operations nationwide has prompted HHS to prioritize efforts to coordinate responses and mitigate disruptions to patient care across the healthcare system.
HHS has been actively engaged in discussions with UHG leadership, state partners, and various stakeholders to assess the impact of the cyberattack and ensure the effectiveness of UHG’s response efforts. Emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted operations for healthcare providers, HHS expects UHG to take all necessary measures to maintain continuity of care. The department is also leading interagency coordination efforts at the federal level, collaborating with agencies such as the FBI, CISA, and the White House to provide timely threat intelligence to the industry.
