With such a vast and complex system, ensuring program integrity is paramount to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandates that state Medicaid programs engage Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) to identify and recover improper payments, enhance accountability, and implement measures to prevent future discrepancies. On April 7, 2025, the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) will commence its partnership with Performant, a leading provider of audit and recovery services, as the designated RAC for the New York State Medicaid program.
