UHC now requires healthcare providers to use new Place of Service codes for telemedicine visits

UnitedHealthcare now requires practitioners to use new POS codes on all claims for dates of service on or after January 1, 2022.

Effective this year, healthcare providers need to indicate a greater level of detail when billing outpatient telemedicine services on UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage Plan members. Specifically, the following Place of Service (POS) codes need to be displayed on a claim:
• POS 02 for virtual visits furnished on patients that are not located in their home during the session• POS 10 for telemedicine services furnished on patients that are located in their home during the session WCH Service Bureau would like to remind you that it is critical to indicate the most accurate place of service both on your claims and in your medical records. Discrepancies between where a service has been performed and the place that has been reported may lead to denials, recoupments, and payer audits of your practice.
