Aetna: Providing More Detailed Demographic Information Can Help Your Practice 

Aetna believes as their members are diverse, they might feel more comfortable talking about their health when they can connect with providers who share their identity.  

Per the Journal of the American Medical Association, a lack of racial and ethnic similarity or shared identity between providers and patients is related to health disparities and inequities. Aetna encourages all providers to self-identify.
