Empire Rebrands as Anthem: What Providers Need to Know

According to a recent update from Empire, one of the leading healthcare providers, a significant change is on the horizon. As of January 1, 2024, Empire will undergo a brand transformation and adopt the name Anthem. This change, comes with essential information for care providers associated with Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare Advantage plans.

Here are the top five key points to be aware of regarding this rebranding:

1. No Impact on Care Providers:

  • Care providers can breathe easy; no action is required on their part. Agreements, contracts, reimbursement procedures, and the level of support provided by Empire will remain unchanged.

2. Prior Authorizations and Referrals Unaffected:

  • Providers will not need to resubmit or reissue any prior authorizations or referrals due to this rebranding. Existing authorizations and referrals will remain valid.

3. Medicaid Provider Call Center Number Change:

  • The Medicaid provider call center number will change to 800-450-8753, effective January 1, 2024. It’s crucial to update contact information accordingly. Other lines of business/product provider phone numbers will remain the same.

4. Updates to Public Provider Website and Availity:

  • Starting December 9, 2023, Empire-Anthem will be visible under Payer Space in Availity. On January 1, 2024, the public provider website will officially transition to the new brand, Anthem. Providers can expect additional information and reminders closer to the launch date to ensure a smooth transition.

5. Member ID Cards Transition:

  • Member ID cards will be reissued with the new Anthem logo. It’s important to note that while the appearance of the card will change, the member’s ID number will remain the same.

This strategic rebranding aims to enhance the overall experience for both providers and members. Providers are encouraged to stay updated on key dates and gather additional information related to this transition by visiting the Empire Provider Portal.

As Anthem emerges, providers can expect a continued commitment to delivering quality healthcare services and a seamless transition into this exciting new chapter.
