Statins for Patients at Risk of Heart Diseases
New Research in England
According to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE, UK), statins should be available to people at a lower risk of heart disease.
It was accepted that statins could be recommended for people with 10% or higher risk over ten years of cardiovascular and heart diseases. However, new studies of the drug’s safety and side effects have shown that many more people can receive the medication.
The data indicate that side effects such as muscle pain are extremely rare.
