Revolutionizing Healthcare: NHS England’s Wireless Technology Trials

NHS England is launching trials to advance wireless technology in healthcare, aiming to enhance connectivity and digital infrastructure. The Connectivity Hub is open for funding applications from projects dedicated to improving digital healthcare technology. The trials, set to begin in summer 2023, will support initiatives that enrich the sector, delivering benefits and addressing healthcare challenges. Successful applicants will receive funding, guidance, and the opportunity to collaborate with leading organizations on Wi-Fi improvement projects. These trials will aid the NHS in meeting its digital targets outlined in the NHS Long-Term Plan.

Previous wireless technology trials have already yielded valuable innovations in healthcare. For instance, University College London Hospitals used the technology to create the Find and Treat service, offering real-time remote diagnosis and referrals on mobile health units, benefiting vulnerable and high-risk individuals. Another trial established the UK’s first 5G-connected hospital at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, empowering clinicians with wireless technology like the eObs app for real-time patient record updates and observations. These trials are expected to further accelerate the adoption of wireless technology in healthcare, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.
