1. AI Is Already in Your Billing Workflow
AI may already be suggesting the diagnosis code. It may be drafting part of your note. It may be scanning the claim before it goes out the door, flagging inconsistencies you’d otherwise catch three denials too late. Somewhere in your EHR or billing platform, an AI system may already be influencing decisions that once depended entirely on a physician, coder, or biller.
AI in medical billing isn’t something physicians need to prepare for someday. It is already here.
Which means the conversation everyone keeps having — should we adopt AI? — is a few years out of date. The real question is sharper, and a lot less comfortable:
The question is no longer whether to use AI. The question is what happens when the AI is wrong.
